Tom Wright played three sports during his career at Bridgewater College and finished his career as one of Bridgewater's most prolific basketball players. Tom ran track and played tennis for the Eagles and was a semifinalist in the 1974 Virginia College Athletics Association men's championship tennis tournament.
Tom left his biggest mark on the basketball court. He finished his playing career with 1,112 rebounds and still ranks No. 1 in college history in career rebounding. Tom also scored 1,447 points during his career, making him one of just two players in Bridgewater College history to finish with at least 1,000 career points and 1,000 career rebounds. He averaged 15.1 points and 12.3 rebounds per game as a sophomore and was named honorable mention on the All-Virginia College Athletics Association team. He was a team co-captain as a junior and averaged 15.3 points and 13.1 rebounds per game. Tom served as team captain during his senior season and was named to the All-VCAA first team. He was second in the conference in scoring with a 21.8 average and ranked among the conference leaders in the rebounding, averaging 13.7 rebounds per game.
In 1975, Tom was chosen as a member of Outstanding College Athletes of America.
Following graduation, Tom taught high school math for seven years and has been active as a youth sports coach. He is currently involved in general contracting work in Florida.
In recognition of his outstanding career, Tom Wright is an obvious choice for induction into the Bridgewater College Athletic Hall of Fame.
