VIDEO: GUY STULL'S HALL OF FAME INDUCTION CEREMONY
Guy Stull's achievements in athletics, first as a two-sport star for Bridgewater College and later as a respected high school coach in his native Maryland, make him a well-deserved addition to the Bridgewater Athletic Hall of Fame.
Originally from Frederick, Md., Guy was a four-year letterman in both baseball and football for the Eagles and a multiple All-Mason-Dixon Conference honoree in both sports. In football, Guy excelled as both an offensive tackle and a defensive end and was named to the All-Mason-Dixon Conference team in three of his four seasons. As a senior captain of the 1966 Bridgewater team, Guy was named the conference's Most Outstanding Player and was the only performer that season named to both the offensive and defensive first units. He also earned first team All-Mason-Dixon and Virginia All-State laurels on defense in 1965 and honorable mention All-Mason-Dixon recognition as a sophomore in 1964.
Guy was also a key member of the Bridgewater baseball team which posted winning campaigns in three of his four seasons. He was twice selected to the All-Mason-Dixon team as a first baseman, once as a junior on the 1966 Eagles squad which finished 9-3 and again the following spring as a senior co-captain. Guy's leadership skills were recognized at the conclusion of his collegiate career when the College tabbed him to receive the annual Sportsmanship Award given by the Harrisonburg-Rockingham Jaycees.
Guy earned his degree in health and physical education in 1967. After graduation, he played for the Staunton Braves of the Valley League before accepting a teaching and coaching position with the Carroll County (Md.) school system. He began his teaching and coaching career at Francis Scott Key High School in Westminster, Md., where he started the school's football program in 1968 and its baseball program one year later. Guy moved to the new Westminster High School in 1971 to become its first baseball coach, a role he held for more than two decades. Guy's Westminster teams proved to be very successful, capturing four consecutive tri-state titles from 1975-78. He also served as Westminster's football coach from 1978-84 and co-headed the school's golf program since 1991. Under Guy's direction, Westminster won the 1981 Big Eight football championship, while the golf team placed third in the Maryland state tournament on 1997 and second in 1999.
Guy Stull was a stalwart performer in athletics who became highly successful in his post-graduate endeavors. His leadership in athletics and in the classroom make Guy an excellent representative to the Bridgewater Athletic Hall of Fame.
