Jason Lutz - 2002
Jason Lutz turned in one of the best seasons in Bridgewater football history as the record-setting quarterback led the Eagles to the 2001 Stagg Bowl – the Division III National Championship game.
As a junior. Lutz was a first-team All-ODAC selection at quarterback and led the Eagles to the program’s first-ever appearance in the NCAA Division III playoffs.
During his senior season Lutz earned numerous postseason accolades while leading the team on its historic run to the Stagg Bowl where the Eagles lost 30-27 to national power Mount Union.
Lutz was the 2001 ODAC Player of the Year, the VaSID State Player of the Year, an honorable mention All-America selection on the D3football.com and Hewlett Packard teams and a third team pick on the Football Gazette All-America squad.
Lutz graduated as the program’s leader in career rushing touchdowns (39), career pass completions (429), career passing yards (6,327), career passing touchdowns (59) and career total offense (8,762 yards).
After graduating with a degree in Health and Exercise Science, Lutz was an assistant high school football coach for 10 years. He also was an assistant women’s basketball coach at Eastern Mennonite University. Lutz then transitioned to a successful career in the private sector.
In recognition of his outstanding play as quarterback of the Eagles football team, Jason Lutz is deserving of induction into the Bridgewater College Athletic Hall of Fame.
