VIDEO: RAYMOND SHULL'S HALL OF FAME INDUCTION CEREMONY
Raymond Shull was one of the top all-around athletes during his years at Bridgewater College, earning 11 athletic letters during his career.
Raymond played basketball and baseball for four years and football for three seasons at BC. As a freshman, he was an honorable mention all-state pick at first base, and on the basketball court, he connected on 28 consecutive free throws, a school record at that time. Also in 1952, Raymond and Fred Diehl combined to pitch five games in two days to lead Bridgewater to the Virginia State Fast Pitch College Tournament championship.
Raymond was a legend on the summer softball circuit for two decades. In 1952, he was voted the outstanding pitcher in the state tournament as he led his team to the state fast pitch title. In 1972, 20 years later, he was again named the outstanding pitcher in the state tournament as he led his squad to the Virginia Slow pitch championship.
Beginning in 1949, Raymond worked in the excavating business with his father. He became sole owner of the business when his father retired. He has been an active member in his church and community, serving on the boards of the Staunton-Augusta YMCA and the Virginia Highway Commission.
Raymond Shull's all-around athletic skills and performance during his years at Bridgewater College merit his election to the Athletic Hall of Fame.
