Jean Braunlich Davis came to Bridgewater College from McLean, Va., with a passion for basketball. A natural athlete, she was a four-year athlete in field hockey, tennis and basketball. Jean played her first two seasons for coach Betsy Tandy and her final two seasons for coach Laura Mapp.

When Jean arrived, Bridgewater already had an established winning tradition in women's basketball under the leadership of Betsy Tandy. However, Jean's arrival and extraordinary ability helped the Eagles post a 9-0 record during 1959-60, 11-0 mark in 1960-61, 11-0 mark in 1961-62, and a 12-1 record in 1962-63. She scored 334 points during her junior year, 380 points in her senior year and totaled nearly 1,200 for her career. Her scoring average of 30.4 points a game in 1961-62 still stands as the women's school record for a single season. Jean had a deft shooting touch from 15 feet and rarely had to work inside because of her size and quickness.

Jean graduated from Bridgewater College in 1963 and taught Physical Education in the R.E. Lee High School system in Staunton, Va. for 10 years, where she also coached girl's junior varsity basketball. Jean went on to play in a semi-professional ladies' basketball league in the state of Virginia with a team out of Lynchburg that captured several championship and she garnered several MVP honors. Jean presently teaches Elementary Physical Education in Atlanta, Ga.

Jean Braunlich Davis was a superb athlete and leader while a student of Bridgewater College. She has continued that leadership and has served as a role model for many years. She is the youngest former athlete to be inducted into the Bridgewater College Athletic Hall of Fame.
