Anthony Lawrence finished his football career at Bridgewater College as one of the most decorated running backs in the College’s history.
Lawrence, who also played baseball (one year) and ran track (two years) at BC, finished his career as BC’s all-time leading rusher with 3,715 yards and still ranks No. 2 on the all-time career rushing list.
Lawrence was named to the All-ODAC first team three times and was named the ODAC Player of the Year in 1988 when he rushed for 1,341 yards, his second straight season with more than 1,300 yards. In 1988, he was honored by the Virginia Sports Information Directors Association as a member of the College Division All-State Team.
Lawrence also ranks No. 2 all-time at BC in all-purpose yardage with 4,963 and first in all-purpose yards per game with 137.9 yards per contest. He scored 174 points during his career to rank No. 5 all-time. During his career, Lawrence rushed for more than 100 yards in a game 19 times.
During the 1988 outdoor track season, Lawrence ran the 100 meters at one of the top three times in BC history. His mark currently ranks No. 10 all-time at Bridgewater.
Lawrence graduated from BC as an art major under the guidance of Professor Paul Kline and received the most athletic senior superlative honor for 1989-90.
Following graduation from Bridgewater, Lawrence began his career as a commercial product designer and is presently working at Feld Entertainment, designing and developing such brands as Disney on Ice, Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey, Monster Jam, and Monster Energy Supercross. The Lawrence family has also embarked upon a family commercial design and apparel printing business, A Lawrence Media.
In recognition of his outstanding career as a student-athlete, Anthony Lawrence is deserving of induction into the Bridgewater College Athletic Hall of Fame.
