VIDEO: BRUCE COWAN HALL OF FAME INDUCTION CEREMONY

Bruce C. Cowan ran track one year at Bridgewater College and was a standout on the football field for four years as an Eagle.

During his senior season in 1971, Bruce rushed for 1,252 yards, averaging 139.1 yards per game. He scored 13 touchdowns and led the state of Virginia in scoring with 91 points. He was named to the All-Virginia State first team, the All-Mason Dixon Conference first team and was an honorable mention selection on the Little All-American football team. The Richmond Times-Dispatch honored Bruce as the state college division player of the year. He carried the football 322 times during the 1971 season, a mark that still stands in the BC record book.

Bruce also served as vice-president of the freshman class and was an officer in the Varsity Letterman's Club.

Following graduation from Bridgewater, Bruce embarked on a career in education. He has served as a teacher, coach, athletics director and assistant principal at the high school level. During his career, he has been a head coach in both football and wrestling. Bruce has also been active as a coach in community youth sports and is a past elder at his church.

For his distinguished career as a football player at Bridgewater and in recognition of his outstanding service as an educator and coach, Bruce Cowan is a deserving choice for induction into the Bridgewater College Athletic Hall of Fame.
