VIDEO: MARGARET HORN HALL OF FAME INDUCTION CEREMONY

Margaret Horn transferred to Bridgewater College from Towson State in 1948 and was a two-year member of the field hockey and basketball teams. She played and coached the field hockey team during her senior season of 1949 and was co-Director of Physical Education during the 1949-50 academic year. She graduated with a Bachelor's of Arts in 1950.

Margaret's greatest feat in the athletic arena, though, came as the Archery coach for James Madison University. She served as the Dukes' Archery coach for 27 years while serving as an assistant professor in the department of health and physical education. Her archers, both men and women, won All-America honors 44 times, the second-most in the history of the University. While at James Madison, she introduced volleyball for the first time in the state at the collegiate level and played the first matches against Eastern Mennonite College and Bridgewater College in 1965. She coached James Madison's varsity squad until 1972 and won three state championships.

Margaret's women's Archery teams at James Madison University claimed the U.S. Intercollegiate Archery outdoor national championship in 1982 and 1990 and also took the 1990 indoor national championship. In addition, she helped coach three different individual national champions. The women won 12 Eastern Regional titles over 13 seasons and finished second in the nation in outdoor competition five times. The men's team captured 11 regional titles and was the national outdoor runner-up three times. In mixed team results, the Dukes took 11 regional titles and placed second in the national tournament seven times. Margaret was inducted to the James Madison University Athletic Hall of Fame in 1995.

Margaret Horn's athletic achievement at Bridgewater College and her willingness and ability to coach while she played coupled with her superior coaching record at James Madison University distinguishes her and makes her a natural for induction into the Bridgewater College Athletic Hall of Fame.
