VIDEO: MELODY DERROW HINKLE HALL OF FAME INDUCTION CEREMONY
Melody Derrow Hinkle was a three-sport standout at Bridgewater College and was one of the college's top student-athletes during her career.
Melody earned 12 varsity letters, playing basketball, volleyball and tennis during each of her four years at Bridgewater.
On the tennis court, she played No. 1 singles all four seasons, finishing her career with a 27-23 record. She also played No. 1 doubles for three years and finished with a 24-22 mark.
On the volleyball court, Melody was a First-Team All-ODAC selection as a senior. During her four years, the Eagles put together a 112-24 overall record, including an ODAC title during her senior year.
Melody's best performances came on the basketball court where she became the first woman in ODAC history to make the All-Conference First Team three consecutive seasons. She continues as Bridgewater's all-time leading scorer with 1,599 points and ranks fifth on the all-time assists list with 387.
Melody epitomized the qualities in a student-athlete as she was named the ODAC Scholar Athlete of the Year in 1991 and graduated magna cum laude with a degree in business administration. She was selected to the GTE Academic All-American Basketball First Team and also was awarded an NCAA postgraduate scholarship. Melody was named to the Dean's List at Bridgewater for 10 of 11 terms.
Following graduation she earned her MBA degree from James Madison University and has taught and coached at the high school level. She has coached four different sports at the high school level and has taught business education and advised the Future Business Leaders of America student organization.
Melody, the mother of two daughters, is active in church and the academic community.
For her outstanding accomplishments, both in the athletic and academic arenas, Melody Derrow Hinkle is deserving of induction into the Bridgewater College Athletic Hall of Fame.
