Dr. Bev Marcum was an outstanding all-around athlete at Bridgewater College. She played basketball, field hockey and tennis and lettered four years in all three sports.

Marcum was selected to the Southeast Regional Field Hockey Team as a junior and senior. She was listed in Who 's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges and twice served as president of the Women 's Athletic Association.

Marcum earned a Ph.D. in biology from the University of Virginia in 1974. She was the founder and president of the Jefferson Club Field Hockey Team, one of the first women 's athletic teams at the university.

Her postdoctoral research in developmental biology took Marcum to California, Japan and Switzerland where she played club basketball in Zurich.

She is professor of biological sciences at California State University, Chico, and director of the Northern California Science Project. Her work in science education for K-12 teachers and undergraduates in the Hands on Teaching Laboratory at CSU, Chico, has received national recognition. Marcum has also taught field courses in conservation biology and marine ecology in the Bahamas and Belize.

In recognition of her stellar athletic career at Bridgewater College and her work as an educator, Dr. Bev Marcum is deserving of induction into the Bridgewater College Athletic Hall of Fame.
