Donald L. “Buck” Gordon was a standout performer on the diamond for the Bridgewater College baseball team and left BC as one of the most decorated athletes in the school’s history.

Gordon spent three seasons with the Eagles’ baseball team from 1993-95. He was an integral member of the 1994 and 1995 ODAC Championship teams that have already been inducted to the Team of Distinction wing of the Bridgewater Athletic Hall of Fame.

Gordon experienced his best statistical season leading the Eagles to the NCAA Tournament in 1994 as he finished the season with an incredible .441 batting average with 52 hits, 49 RBI, 29 runs scored, six home runs and a .754 slugging percentage. He was named an All-ODAC first team selection as a designated hitter.

In his final season at Bridgewater, Gordon backed up those numbers hitting at a .380 clip with 32 RBI, nine home runs and 48 runs scored as Bridgewater repeated as the league champion. Although selected to the All-ODAC second team, Gordon was picked as the top catcher in the South region by the ABCA and was named an All-American with a spot on the third team – just the fifth All-American selection in the program’s history.

Gordon’s name appears all over the Bridgewater baseball record book including as one of just four players to finish with a career batting average over .400 as he sported a .403 clip. The All-American’s name also appears in the all-time leaders in slugging percentage (.692), on-base percentage (.497), home runs (19) and triples (8).

After his third season in the Crimson & Gold, Gordon was drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the 19th round of the 1995 MLB Draft and spent two seasons playing in the Cubs’ minor league system in the Gulf Coast League and in Williamsport. It marked the fifth time an Eagle had been selected in the MLB Amateur Draft as just the third player to garner the achievement.

In addition to his success on the diamond, Gordon was a member of the football program. He finished second on the team in rushing with 531 yards in the 1992 season.

Gordon’s wife Megan, also a Bridgewater alum, was a member of the volleyball and softball programs during her time in the Crimson and Gold. Gordon’s son Tristan is a member of the Bridgewater College football and baseball programs, while his daughters Maddie and Kate both played college softball at the Division I level at Penn State and James Madison, respectively.

In recognition of his outstanding performances as a student-athlete, Buck Gordon is worthy of induction into the Bridgewater College Athletic Hall of Fame.
