David H. Osborne came to Bridgewater College from the Roanoke Valley and became one of the college's top student-athletes from 1957-61. A gifted athlete, he arrived after winning the 880 run in the state track meet while at Troutville High School. A three-sport athlete at Bridgewater, he was a four-year letterman in football and a three-year letterman in basketball and track and field.

During his career as an Eagle, David's high point came when he earned first-team All Mason-Dixon honors as an offensive halfback following the 1960 football season. That was quite a testament to his talent, considering that the Eagles did not register a victory or field a high-scoring offense. He was also voted as a tri-captain that season and served as captain of the track & field team during the 1961 season. David helped the Eagle basketball team to an impressive 17-4 record and an appearance in the Mason-Dixon Tournament finals in 1959-60. The basketball team captured 38 victories overall during his four years with the squad.

David graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Bridgewater in 1961. He went into education as his profession, serving as a teacher, coach and athletic director. He has been head football and track & field coach at Grimsley High School (N.C.) and at Jefferson and William Fleming High Schools in Roanoke, Va. He went on to become the Director of Athletics at Patrick Henry High School. While in Roanoke, he has been instrumental in guiding and directing scholastic athletics. He organized the Patrick Henry Hall of Fame, served on the Virginia High School League Sports Advisory Committee, was a charter member of the Roanoke Valley Sports Club and was chairman of the Roanoke Valley Athletics Association.

Because of his work in education and high school athletics, and being a superior athlete for Bridgewater College, David Osborne is a natural selection to the Bridgewater College Athletic Hall of Fame.
