VIDEO: MARSHALL FLORA HALL OF FAME INDUCTION CEREMONY
Marshall Flora distinguished himself as one of the top running backs in the nation during his four-year gridiron career at Bridgewater College.
Marshall earned a starting role late during his freshman season and was named to the All-Mason-Dixon Conference team as a sophomore when he rushed for 591 yards and four touchdowns. As a junior, Marshall rushed for 1,147 yards and eight touchdowns while carrying the ball an average of 27 times per game. He once again was an All-Conference selection and earned honorable mention Small College All-American recognition. As a senior, Marshall served as team captain and led all College Division rushers with 1,516 yards on 317 carries. He was chosen to the All-Conference team for the third straight year and was named to the Associated Press Small College All-America third team. Marshall was also named the Virginia Small College Player of the Year following his senior season.
Marshall, who never missed a game during his four-year career, currently stands third on BC's all-time rushing list with 3,474 yards.
Marshall earned his Bachelors degree in Sociology and returned to his native Franklin County where he worked in education as a teacher and coach for nearly 30 years. He currently serves as the Franklin County Director of Special Education.
Called "the best all-around player I have seen here at Bridgewater," by long-time BC coach John Spencer, Marshall Flora's gridiron exploits, along with his lifelong dedication to the education of young people, make him an outstanding addition to the Athletic Hall of Fame.
