Dorita Puffenbarger Webster finished her career at Bridgewater College as one of the top volleyball players in college history.
Dorita played two years of softball while at Bridgewater. The program started as a club program in 1987 and received varsity status in 1988. Dorita played both years and the 1988 team finished with an 11-6 record.
Dorita excelled on the volleyball court where she served as team captain as a junior and senior. During her four years in the program, the volleyball team posted a 105-23 record.
The Eagles finished first in the regular season and placed second in the ODAC tournament during her freshman year. The team finished with a 22-6 record. The Eagles posted another ODAC runner-up mark during her sophomore campaign, finishing with a 23-8 record. As a junior, the Eagles posted a 27-7 mark and again finished second in the conference.
The Eagles finally broke through during her senior season, posting the best season in Bridgewater history. The team was undefeated in conference play and ranked No. 1 in the South Region. The Eagles made their first trip to the NCAA tournament and finished the year with a 33-2 record. Dorita made the All-ODAC first team for the third consecutive season and was named the ODAC Player of the Year. She was also named to the All-South Region team.
Dorita held the college record for kills with 1,113 for 15 years and still ranks No. 3 on the all-time kills record list.
Following graduation, she served as volleyball coach of Junior Olympic teams and as head coach at Turner Ashby High School. From 1988-1996, Dorita was an assistant volleyball coach at Bridgewater College and during those years the Eagles posted a 191-61 record.
She is also involved in various activities within her church, serving in numerous capacities.
In recognition of her outstanding volleyball career, Dorita Puffenbarger Webster is an outstanding addition to the Bridgewater College Athletics Hall of Fame.
