A three-sport standout for Bridgewater College from 1973 to 1977, Susan Billhimer earned international recognition as a member of the United States Lacrosse team and helped the U.S. capture the sport's highest team honor, the World Cup of Lacrosse.

Susan earned four letters in lacrosse as the Eagles' goalkeeper and was an integral part of Bridgewater's unbeaten 1976 team which won the Virginia Women's Lacrosse Association tournament and defeated, among others, powerhouses such as the University of Virginia and the College of William and Mary. Individually, Susan was named to the Southern District second team in 1976 and played on the U.S. national squad from 1979-86. In 1981, she was selected to compete as part of a U.S. touring team which traveled to Australia and the following year was chosen to represent the United States in the World Cup tournament in England, where the U.S. team defeated Australia in the finals. For her contributions, Susan received the Beth Allen award, given to a player who exemplifies outstanding team effort and sportsmanship, at the 1986 U.S. National Tournament.

Susan was also a key member of four strong Bridgewater basketball teams and helped the Eagles to two Virginia Federation of Intercollegiate Sports for Women (VFISW) championships in 1976 and 1977 as well as a pair of appearances in the Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (AIAW) regional tournament. She was the team's second leading scorer during the 1975-76 campaign and finished second among Eagles in rebounding in 1974-75. During the fall, Susan competed on the field hockey team all four seasons.

After receiving her B.A. degree from Bridgewater in 1977, Susan remained active in the college's athletic program as an assistant coach in both field hockey and lacrosse, and has shared her knowledge and expertise in lacrosse with a number of Bridgewater goalkeepers throughout the years.

Susan lives in Rockingham County and remains active in field hockey and lacrosse as an official for the Old Dominion Athletic Conference.
