Donald A. Mitchell was a fine all-around athlete during his years at Bridgewater College.

Mitchell played five different sports while a student. He played basketball and baseball for four years and hit for a .407 average during his junior season on the baseball diamond. Mitchell ran cross country three year, track two years and played football one year.

Mitchell served as sports editor of the college yearbook and BC Bee and, at the encouragement of Dan Geiser, formed a tumbling team that performed at college and community events.

Away from BC, Mitchell was a member of the original special forces, the "Frogmen, the forerunners of the Seals. He remained active in athletic endeavors, playing baseball, basketball, fast-pitch softball and golf following his graduation.

Among his numerous post-graduate achievements, Mitchell helped open the first waterfront program for the Blue Ridge Council of the Boy Scouts of American in 1950. He also founded "The Foundation for the Advancement of Marine Sciences" - for the purpose of educating teachers and students in the area of marine science.

In recognition of his stellar playing career at Bridgewater College and his numerous post-graduate accomplishment, Donald A. Mitchell is deserving of induction into the Bridgewater College Athletics Hall of Fame.
