VIDEO: CHARLES PHILLIPS' HALL OF FAME INDUCTION CEREMONY

Charles "Charlie" Phillips played four sports at Bridgewater College: football for one year, indoor track for four years, outdoor track for four years and cross country for three years, leaving his mark on the track and cross country record books during his career.

Phillips helped lead the Eagles to three team championships in cross country. At the Mason Dixon championships he placed in the top four finishers in three years of competition. He broke the Bridgewater five-mile record at 25:20 and finished 27th in the NCAA Division III Championship Meet, just two spots away from the Little All-American ranking in 1973.

In indoor and outdoor track he provided the college with several top or near-the-top finishes, most notably when he won the Mason Dixon three-mile title in 1972 and 1974. Phillips also set Bridgewater College records in the mile at 4:17.5, the two-mile at 9:13.2 and the three-mile at 14:20.7. These records still stand in the Bridgewater record books, even after conversion to the metric equivalent.

Phillips graduated magna cum laude with a B.A. in chemistry in 1974. He served two years as the President of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and appeared in the 1974 listing of Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges. He completed his theology degree in 1997 and received an honorary Ph.D. in theology in 2002. For the past 30 years he has worked for the Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory, currently serving as a project engineer. In the ministry, he has functioned as pastor, Bible school teacher, workplace Bible teacher, evangelist in visiting churches, and missions teacher/minister in seven different countries.

In recognition of his outstanding career as a runner in both the track and cross country programs and his career of service and achievement following graduation, Charles Phillips is a worthy candidate for induction into the Bridgewater College Athletic Hall of Fame.
