VIDEO: DEBORAH WEST WINDETT HALL OF FAME INDUCTION CEREMONY
Deborah West Windett played three sports during her career at Bridgewater and earned 11 varsity letters.
Deborah lettered four years in basketball and played on the 1976 team that won the State Championship title.
She also lettered four years in field hockey and was a co-captain in 1975. Deborah was a Southeast Tournament selection in both 1973 and 1974. In 1975, the Eagles field hockey team finished second in the Blue Ridge Conference, sixth in the AIAW Region II tournament and competed in the USFHA-AIAW National tournament.
Deborah also excelled on the lacrosse field and was a team co-captain in 1976. She was an alternate on the Virginia lacrosse team in 1974 and 1975 and a primary selection to the team in 1976. The 1976 team finished with a 10-0-1 record - Bridgewater's first undefeated season.
Following graduation from Bridgewater, Deborah embarked on a career in education that began at Sussex Central High School, her alma mater. She coached numerous sports at Sussex and started varsity programs for girls in tennis and soccer.
After 21 years at Sussex Central, she moved on to Caesar Romney High School, where she is the varsity field hockey and lacrosse coach. Her 2003 field hockey team was a final four participant in the state tournament and her 2004 lacrosse team played in the state championship game.
During her coaching career, Deborah's field hockey teams have won more than 250 games and she has been named conference coach of the year three times. She has continued to promote the sports of lacrosse and field hockey during her coaching career, serving on various committees at both the local and state level.
In recognition of her performance as a student-athlete at Bridgewater College and her continued success as a coach and educator, Deborah West Windett is an obvious choice for Bridgewater College's Athletic Hall of Fame.
