VIDEO: RAMSEY YEATTS HALL OF FAME INDUCTION CEREMONY
During his two years at Bridgewater College, Ramsey Yeatts rewrote the basketball record book and helped the Eagles' program gain national recognition.
Ramsey transferred to Bridgewater from James Madison University and made an immediate impact on the BC program. The Eagles improved from a 6-19 record the previous year to 17-9 in Ramsey's first year with the team. Ramsey averaged 22.3 points per game and was named the ODAC Player of the Year after leading the Eagles to the conference regular season title.
The 1987-1988 season was even better as the Eagles won their first ODAC championship and made their first trip to the NCAA tournament. Ramsey was once again the leader of the team as he set a new BC single season scoring record with 733 points and earned his second straight ODAC Player of the Year honor. The Eagles were ranked as high as fourth in the nation during his senior season and he earned national acclaim as well. Ramsey was named a first-team All-American by Basketball Times magazine and a second-team All-American by the National Association of Basketball Coaches.
Ramsey finished his career at Bridgewater with 1,314 career points and 453 career rebounds. His totals still appear among the college's all-time leaders as he ranks 16th in career scoring and 18th in career rebounding. He holds the career 3-point field goal percentage record with a 49.8 percent mark and the single season 3-point field goal record at 53.4 percent during the 1987-1988 season.
Since graduating from Bridgewater College, Ramsey has been a success in the business world as well as an active alumnus. He has been involved in the banking business for 15 years and is currently Market Executive and Vice President of First Citizens Bank in the Danville, Virginia market. Ramsey has also served on past boards for Smith Mountain Lake chapter of alumni, as well as BC Alumni Board of Directors. He was also a class agent for 12 years for Alumni giving.
For his many contributions to Bridgewater College, Ramsey Yeatts is worthy of induction into the Bridgewater College Athletic Hall of Fame.
