Mari Lou Moore was a three-sport standout at Bridgewater College, playing basketball, lacrosse, and field hockey all four years. As a senior on the basketball team, Lou led the team in scoring with an 11.7 average. She was selected to the All-Virginia second-team and was the MVP of the Virginia Federation of Intercollegiate Sports for Women (VFISW) small college tournament. The Eagles won the small college tournament during Lou's junior and senior seasons. Lou led the field hockey team to two appearances (1974 and 1975) in the Blue Ridge Field Hockey Association tournament. Additionally, she was selected to the Southeast Tournament All-Star team in 1974. Lou was also a standout on the lacrosse field where she was selected to the All-Virginia second team following the 1975 and 1976 seasons. She was selected as a reserve on the 1975 Southern District team. BC's 1976 lacrosse team finished with a 10-0-1 record, the first and only undefeated lacrosse season, and placed first in the VWLA Tournament.
Following graduation, Lou stayed active in athletics as both a coach and official. She has officiated ODAC competition in women's basketball, lacrosse, and field hockey and has been an active high school basketball official. Her coaching career began as an assistant lacrosse and field hockey coach at the University of Virginia in 1980. She also coached lacrosse at Sweet Briar College and later coached basketball, field hockey, and lacrosse at Mary Baldwin College, and field hockey at Eastern Mennonite University. Also, Lou coached the South lacrosse team at the USWLA national tournament and the Southeast field hockey teams at the USFHA national tournament during the 1990s.
As a fine three-sport athlete during her playing career at Bridgewater College and a successful official and college coach, Mari Lou Moore is deserving of induction into the Bridgewater College Athletic Hall of Fame.
