VIDEO: TERRY WESTHAFER HALL OF FAME INDUCTION CEREMONY
Terry Westhafer was a two-sport standout during his career at Bridgewater College.
On the gridiron, Terry lettered four years and played offense, defense and returned kicks. He led the Eagles to their first-ever win over Hampden-Sydney when he returned a kickoff for a touchdown with 30 seconds left to play, giving the Eagles a 7-3 victory. In 1968, he was named to the Virginia Little Eight Small College All-Conference First Team and the Mason-Dixon All-Conference First Team at defensive back. Team members named him the Eagles' Most Valuable Back for the 1969 football season.
Terry also excelled in track and was team co-captain in 1969. He set a school record in the 440-yard dash with a time of 49.1 seconds and was the Virginia Small College State Champion in the 440 in 1968 and 1969. He anchored the 440-yard relay team that set both school and Mason-Dixon Conference records in 1968. He also anchored the mile relay team that won the Mason-Dixon Conference title and established a school record in 1968. Both relay teams won Virginia Small College State titles in 1968 and 1969.
Terry joined Central Tire Corporation, the family business, following graduation and became president and general manager in 1975. He has received numerous industry honors and served as president of several international trade associations.
He has been active in church, civic and environmental activities. He is an elder in the Presbyterian Church where he has served on various committees. Terry was a member of the board of directors of the Staunton-Augusta Chamber of Commerce, the Stuart Hall School board of trustees, chair of the Staunton Redevelopment and Housing Authority, and was appointed to the Virginia Recycling Markets Development Council.
In recognition of his outstanding athletic career at Bridgewater and his leadership qualities in his business, church and community, M. Terry Westhafer is deserving of induction into the Bridgewater College Athletic Hall of Fame.
