Davon Lewis was a two-sport standout during his career at Bridgewater College and finishedas one of the most decorated track and field performers in the College’s history.
Lewis won six Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) individual indoor titles and seven ODAC outdoor titles during his career. In 1997 Lewis was named the ODAC Track Athlete of the Year and the South/Southeast Region Male Track Athlete of the Year. During the 1997 season, the Eagles won both the ODAC indoor and outdoor track and field team titles.
Lewis qualified for the NCAA Division III National Meet in 1995, 1996 and 1997 and earned All-American honors in both the high jump and long jump at the 1997 NCAA Outdoor Championships.
Lewis still holds the ODAC records in the indoor high jump at 7 feet, ¼ inch and the outdoor record at 7 feet, 2 ¼ inches. His outdoor high jump record ranks fifth all-time on the NCAA Division III performance list.
Lewis was also a four-year member of the Eagles’ football team as a wide receiver and punter. In 1997, he was named to the All-ODAC first team as a punter and was a team captain. As a receiver he finished his career with 13 touchdown receptions, at the time a Bridgewater record.
Following graduation, Lewis embarked on a high school coaching career. He began his coaching career at nearby Turner Ashby High before moving to Christiansburg High in 2000 where he still coaches three sports. In 2011, Lewis joined the Roanoke College track and field program as an assistant coach. Throughout his high school coaching career, he has coached numerous all-district, all-region and all-state performers in track, football and basketball.
In recognition of his outstanding playing career while at Bridgewater and his dedication as a coach of high school student-athletes, Davon Lewis is deserving of induction into the Bridgewater College Athletic Hall of Fame.
