LYNCHBURG, Va. - The Bridgewater College men's track and field team opened the 2025 season at the Burg Open at Liberty University.
Rookie
Joe Amlacher opened his collegiate career with a bang as he took home the win in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.72 seconds in the eighth best time in program history. Trey Birtchett and
Tyler Johnson each registered top six finishes in the event as well with times of 9.19 and 9.37 seconds each. BC saw lots of action in the 400m dash led by an eighth place finish by rookie
Gabe Wylie with a time of 53.19 seconds.
Cy Alderman also registered a top 10 in the event as he crossed the line at the 53.68 seconds mark.Â
In the field events
Mike Smith led the way. The Waynesboro, Va. native opened the morning with a top finish in the weight throw with a toss of 16.66m. Walker Nicely tallied a fifth place finish in the pole vault for the Eagles with a mark of 4.10m to start the campaign. Amlacher backed up his morning performance with a third place finish in the high jump with a mark of 1.90m. Smith came back out in the afternoon and put together a fifth place finish in the shot put with a distance of 13.54m.
The Eagles are back in action on Jan. 18 in the Nation's Capital at the Robert Comstock Cardinal Invitational hosted by Catholic.
