GREENWOOD, Ind. - The College Sports Communicators (CSC) organization announced Tuesday afternoon seven Bridgewater College track & field and cross country student-athletes to CSC Academic All-District.
To qualify for CSC Academic All-District, a student-athlete must hold a 3.5 GPA or greater as a sophomore or higher in their respective athletic season and hold a top-50 regional ranking in either the cross country or track & field season.
Gabriel Miller (Covington, Va.) excelled in the classroom and on the track. Miller competed in the 5,000 meters in the track season and ranked 42nd in the region.
Kyle Galloway (Ashburn, Va.) followed that up with a strong academic and athletic season. Galloway ranked 40th in the region in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.02.
On the women's side, five student-athletes rose to the occasion in academics and athletics. Olivia Bates (Martinsburg, W.Va.) posted a stellar time in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.24, earning a ranking in the top-15 in the south region.
Summer Wallace (Staunton, Va.) stayed dialed, in both the classroom and on the track. Wallace had the team's best times in the 400m, the high jump, and the long jump. The star student-athlete ranked 11th in the 400, sixth in the high jump, and fifth in the long jump in the region.
Jade Buckles (Stafford, Va.) also had a strong semester and catapulted to regional rankings. On the track, Buckles cruised to the team's best times in the 100 meters and the 200-meter dashes. The sprinter had the 15th best ranking in the south region with a time of 12.27 and the 14th best ranking in the 200 with a time of 25.17.
In the cross country season, both Mackenzie Young (Chesterfield, Va.) and Emily Smeds (Palmyra, Va.) shined in the classroom and on the course. Young and Smeds qualified for the cross country national championships with regional marks in the top-50 qualifying list. Young cruised to the 13th best time in the south region with a time of 22:16.3 in the 6k race. Smeds posted the 15th best time in the region with a time of 22.26.1.
This marks the first ever CSC Academic All-District award for Wallace, Buckles, and Galloway while Miller and Bates have secured two Academic All-District awards, and Young and Smeds have three.
