LANDOVER, Md. - The Bridgewater College men's track and field team competed at the Robert Comstock Cardinal Classic, hosted by Catholic Saturday afternoon. Bridgewater finished second as a team, earning 93 points. The Eagles finished ahead of several division III foes and only trailed Johns Hopkins.
Trey Birchett claimed the top spot in the men's high jump, clearing 1.85 meters. Two other competitors also cleared the 1.85-meter threshold, but Birchett was the only one to clear on the first try.
Walker Knicely cleared 4.25 meters in the men's pole vault to claim fourth. A week removed from setting the program record, Knicely cleared the mark on his first attempt.
Jesus Flores claimed the top spot in the men's shot put. Flores threw 15.18 meters on his third throw, setting the 40th best mark in division III this season. Luke Williams threw 13.04 meters on his third throw to earn fifth place. McKinley Goodbar threw 12.48 meters on his first and fourth throw to place sixth.
Flores also claimed the top spot in the men's weight throw. A 15.18-meter throw on his fourth attempt earned him the top spot. Sophomore Joe Flynn threw 14.98 meters to place second. Sophomore thrower Nick Goleno recorded a 13.63-meter throw on his second try to claim sixth.
Jayden Davenport ran the third best time in the men's 60-meter dash prelims to earn his spot in the final. Davenport clocked a personal best 7.07 in the sixth heat. The freshman sprinter crossed the line in 7.08 seconds in the final for a fifth-place finish. Kyle Galloway and Ben Baker also competed in the prelims. Baker ran a personal best 7.85 in the first heat.
Jayden Brown ran the fifth best time in the preliminaries of the men's 60-meter hurdles. The freshman sprinter crossed the line in 8.79 seconds to qualify for the final. Brown ran a personal best 8.51 in the final, earning third place.
Davenport and Gabe Wylie competed in the men's 200-meter dash and earned fourth and fifth place finishes respectively. Davenport ran in the sixth heat and clocked a 23.27, while Wylie crossed the line in 23.51 in the third heat.
Wylie followed by claiming the top spot in the men's 400-meter. His 51.85 performance marked the season's best performance.
Kaedon Howley clocked 2:09.22 in the men's 800-meter. Grayson Jacquez finished eighth in the men's 3k. The freshman distance runner crossed the line at the 9:14.71 mark.
Brandon Adamson and Aidan Dumas competed in the men's 5k and finished in seventh and 11th respectively. Adamson crossed the line at 17:22.93, and Dumas clocked at 17:59.49.
The Eagles concluded the meet with an entry in the men's 4k distance medley relay. The freshman quartet of Jacquez, Howley, Malakai Wettig, and Gavin Diehl finished second, stopping the clock at 10:57.42.
The Eagles host the Shane Stevens Winter Invitational in Penn Laird, Va., on Saturday, Jan. 24. Field events begin at 10 a.m.
