FERRUM, Va. - The Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) organization announced Thursday morning Bridgewater College men's track & field athletes; Mike Smith, Joe Amlacher, and Jesus Flores to VaSID All-State Selection Teams.
Joe Amlacher earned a spot on the All-State First Team. Amlacher rounded out his freshman year with astounding accolades. The hurdler received USTFCCCA All-Region and All-ODAC First Team honors. The Rockingham, Va., native heated up in the 110-meter hurdles, running a first-place finish at ODACs including a personal best time of 14.74 seconds. Amlacher ended the season with the second fastest time in the south region.
Mike Smith had himself another strong season making it to his second-straight nationals. Along with his All-State First Team nod, the thrower was placed on the All-American Second Team, All-Region, and the All-ODAC First Team. The Waynesboro, Va., native finished the season with the best mark in the south region in the hammer throw at 59.76m. The thrower also had the third-best mark in the discus (48.19m) and came away with ODAC Field Athlete of the Meet accolades.
Also, in the field events, Jesus Flores showed out in the shot put and landed All-State Second Team honors. The Baltimore, Md., native added to his collection of medals and recognition with All-Region and All-ODAC First Team. In the shot put, Flores threw the fourth-best mark in the region with a 15.37m result.
With these recent accolades, Mike Smith garners his third-straight All-State honor while Flores and Amlacher picked up their first ever All-State award.
