BRIDGEWATER, Va. - Bridgewater men's track & field has been on the road the past few days competing at the Lynchburg Twilight Qualifier and the Liberty Qualifier for a qualifying mark in nationals. The Eagles are now preparing for the Mount Olive Qualifier Thursday, May 8 to continue their stride in competing on the national stage in Geneva, Ohio on May 22-24.
Last time out, the Eagles put up strong marks on Friday, May 2 at the Lynchburg Hill City Twilight Qualifier. Mike Smith threw a strong mark of 46.92m in the discus throw for a first-place result. Later, he then posted a personal best in the hammer throw with a mark of 59.76m. Currently, he sits 11th in the nation on the Division III qualifying list. That mark has also improved his second-best mark all-time in program history.
At the Liberty Qualifier Tuesday, Joe Amlacher impressed in the 110-meter hurdles, placing fourth in the finals among Division I competitors running a time of 14.89. His personal best he set at ODACs is tied for the program record at 14.74. Walker Knicely also raised the bar in the pole vault to top his personal best with a new posted height of 4.36m. That mark improved his third best mark all-time in program history.
The Eagles now head to the Mount Olive Qualifier on Thursday, May 8 to continue fighting for a spot in qualification at the NCAA track & field championships.
