FERRUM, Va. - The Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) organization announced Wednesday morning four Bridgewater College baseball athletes to the VaSID All-State selection teams.
At the forefront of the awards stood Nick Stavros. Stavros was named VaSID All-State Player of the Year along with a selection to All-State First Team playing at second base. The Stony Point, N.Y., native racked up numerous accolades after an impressive junior season. Stavros was named to the ABCA/Rawlings All-American Fourth Team along with D3baseball.com and ABCA/Rawlings All-Region First Team, All-ODAC First Team, and All-ODAC Player of the Year. Stavros finished the season batting .435 with a 1.081 OPS including 48 runs scored, 74 hits, three homers, 34 walks, and 38 runs batted in.
From the designated hitter position, Bridgewater baseball saw incredible results. Zack Chadwell took on the role with much to show. The Chesapeake, Va., native received All-State First Team while also earning national and regional accolades. He earned D3baseball.com All-American Fifth Team and ABCA/Rawlings All-American Fourth Team honors along with All-Region First Team and All-ODAC First Team selections. The power hitter had a league-leading OPS of 1.346 including 16 home runs, 59 runs batted in, 42 walks, and 113 total bases while slugging .807.
Also selected to All-State First Team was Ashton Smith at third base. Smith, a Chesapeake native, garnered All-Region Second Team and All-ODAC First Team honors. In the season, the third baseman recorded 50 runs batted in, seven home runs, and 58 hits on a .343 season batting average.
Landing a spot on the All-State Second Team was Cam Nuckols. Nuckols also earned All-ODAC Second Team after a solid season on the mound. The Chesterfield, Va., native made 13 appearances, putting up a 3.36 earned run average with a team-high 68 strikeouts.
With these recent All-State accolades, the four recipients have all received their first-ever All-State honor.
VaSID names 44 all-state teams in 23 sports each year, as well as the Academic All-State squad and an all-sports champion in both the University and College Divisions. Membership in VaSID is open to all media relations professionals working at a university or conference in the state of Virginia.
