GREENSBORO, N.C. - The American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings announced Thursday night the All-American honorees as Bridgewater baseball received two selections to the nationally recognized award at second base and designated hitter.
With both Nick Stavros awarded All-American Fourth Team and Zack Chadwell garnering All-American Third Team honors, this feat marks the first time in program history that a Bridgewater baseball player was recognized for All-American status since 2013. Nick Fulk back in 2013 landed All-American honorable mention. Before that, the program did not place on a selection team since 2004 when J.R. Estes was selected to All-American First Team.
Stavros did not disappoint from second base or at the plate all season. The Stony Point, N.Y., native maintained a remarkable season batting average, leading the Old Dominion Athletic Conference with a .435 average. Stavros also held the second-most hits recorded in a season in program history (74). Along with the All-American accolade, Stavros was awarded ODAC Player of the Year and selected to All-Conference First Team including being selected to D3baseball.com and ABCA/Rawlings All-Region First Team.
The designated hitter from Chesapeake, Va., finished the season with a scorching bat. Chadwell broke the school record in a season for most walks (42) while also tying the program record for second-most runs batted in in a season (59). Chadwell launched 16 homers out of the ballpark along with a .393 season batting average. The power hitter also boasted a 1.346 OPS for the season. In addition to All-American status, Chadwell received All-ODAC First Team and All-Region First Team honors.
