NELLYSFORD, Va. - The Bridgewater College women's golf team wrapped up the first round of the fall season at the SVU Invitational at Wintergreen Resort as junior Hannah Rizzo leads all Bridgewater scorers carding a +3 (75) on Monday.  

Rizzo is currently holding sole possession of second place in a field of 31 golfers. York's (Pa.) Victoria Jolakian leads all golfers with a 74.  

On the front nine, Rizzo started off slow while adjusting to the course's challenges. A double bogey at hole number two set Rizzo up for a situation of a comeback early. The junior then scored another double bogey at No. 8 to give herself a +4 (40). However, that course of action quickly dwindled and Rizzo turned things around efficiently getting out of jams in the holes 10-13. Only one bogey on the back nine defeated a relatively strong back nine to close out the final holes with a –1 (35).  

The next finisher for Bridgewater was senior Emily Price who placed fifth with a score of 77. A double bogey at No. 4 and a triple bogey at No. 15 pushed the senior's score up to a higher score despite three birdies along the way.  

Freshman Addy Sweet encountered tough holes for her first collegiate appearance. Sweet carded a 99 to place 23rd. 

The next two freshmen followed in order at 25th and 26th place. Iyana Smith nailed back-to-back pars at No. 2 and 3 but soon also found the challenges of collegiate golf at Wintergreen. Smith finished round one with a 106. To round out the five scorers for Bridgewater was freshman Sarah Maggi. Adjustments to the course and the competition were also noted for the first year. Maggi finished round one of her first collegiate appearance with a 112.  

The Eagles return to play tomorrow, Sept. 9 for round two at Wintergreen Resort with a shotgun start at 10 a.m.
