HARRISONBURG, Va. - The Bridgewater College women's golf team came away with a three-way tie for third place Tuesday afternoon at the home Bridgewater Invitational in a field of eight teams after the second and final round of golf.
SVU held onto first place while Virginia Wesleyan placed second with 16 more strokes, respectively. Bridgewater also improved with a seven-stroke team improvement.
"Proud of this team and the work they're putting in," said head coach Nick Schlickenrieder. "Turning hours of practice into tournament performance is no small task, and it's inspiring to watch them rise to the challenge. I'm excited to see what the rest of the fall season holds."
The Eagles continued to be led by senior Emily Price in the second round of golf at Lakeview Golf Course. In the first round Price carded a 78 and in the second round, Price shot better with a 76 to total a +4 (154). In the individual player standings, the senior finished in fourth among 50 golfers. At holes four through seven, Price steadied the course while hitting even par at all four holes. With some bogeys sprinkled in, Price knocked in a birdie on a par 3 hole at 13 and at 11 to finish with solid scores in a top-five finish.
The next Bridgewater finisher was junior Hannah Rizzo. Rizzo also improved in the second round of play from the first round, carding a 76 and a +12 (156). Rizzo saw three holes work to precision landing birdies at holes seven, 15, and 18. The junior placed sixth.
Then, fellow Bridgewater teammates, Addy Sweet and Iyana Smith finished right next to each other. Sweet scored 177 for 33rd place and Smith took 34th place with a score of 178.
To end the invitational, Sarah Maggi closed out the tournament as Bridgewater's final finisher.
