FERRUM, Va. - The Virginia Sports Information Directors organization (VaSID) announced Wednesday Zach Erb and Christian Carroll to All-State First Team in swimming as well as All-State Rookie of the Year for Carroll.
Both swimmers performed remarkably well this past season. Zach Erb (McGaheysville, Va.) especially showed out all season. Erb's accolades included being named NCAA First Team All-American, qualifying nationally at NCAAs for the first time ever in program history, being awarded ODAC Conference Swimmer of the Meet, and garnering All-ODAC First Team selection. Erb placed third for his best finish at the NCAAs in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 53.19. At the ODAC championships Erb went all out, breaking his own school records in the 200 individual medley and the 100 and 200 Breast with new posted times of 1:48.13 in the 200 IM, 53.01 in the 100 and 1:58.27 in the 200. In the overall season, the sophomore posted 16 first-place finishes.
Following up that strong season was the first year Christian Carroll. Carroll was awarded ODAC Rookie of the Meet as well as All-ODAC First Team honors. At ODACs, the sprint swimmer teared up the pool, smashing a school record in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 49.03. He finished second and third in the backstroke and the 50-yard freestyle. Overall, Carroll landed 10 first-place finishes on the season.
