FREDERICK, Md. - The Bridgewater College women's basketball team picked up their second win in a row in lopsided fashion over Hood 59-35 on Tuesday.
The Basics
Final Score: Bridgewater 59, Hood 35
Records: Bridgewater 4-2, Hood 0-5
How it Happened
- The Eagles won the tip and drove down the floor as Riley Corcoran opened the scoring with a jumper. After a trade of stops Kayla Ford found Corcoran open to push it to 4-0. The teams traded buckets and a triple from the Blazers got them back to within a point, but another Corcoran score sparked a quick 5-0 run to put the Eagles ahead by six. Hood responded with back-to-back scores to get it back to a one-score game but six quick points over the final 86 seconds of the first quarter including a buzzer beater by Reagan Maynard gave the Eagles a 17-9 lead after one.
- The BC offense exploded to stat the second quarter as Alexis Edmonds earned the bucket and the foul in the opening 15 seconds for the old-fashioned three-point play to push the Eagles' lead to double digits. Abby Freeman and Vanessa Luna followed suit on what would be a 7-2 BC run to open the second frame before the first Hood field goal of the frame came at the six-minute mark remaining in the half. Bridgewater pushed on and the defense did it coach Stephanie Flamini things as the Blazers were held without another field goal on what would become a 14-1 scoring spree for the Eagles over the final five minutes and change. Corcoran was the only player with multiple scores during the run and Jay Garcia capped it off with nine seconds left in the period to make it 38-14 entering the intermission.
- Ford and Corcoran connected in transition to open the scoring in the third quarter before My'la Green and Jaden Alsberry did the same. A Blazer's three pointer allowed them to respond and sparked a short 7-2 scoring spree for the home side before neither team found nylon for over three minutes. Edmonds ended the drought and Garcia followed suit before a basket and a free throw from the Blazers made it 48-24 heading to the final 10 minutes.
- Alsberry got the scoring started in the fourth as Autumn Gentry connected with the senior. Hood responded but a Maynard score combined with an Alsberry block led to an Aylin Humpherys three-point bucket. Hood quickly responded before Freeman found Alsberry on the low block to put the brakes on the Blazers momentum. Hood closed the game on a 7-2 run down the stretch but the Eagles held on for a 59-35 victory.
