How it Happened
  • Washington and Lee opened the game with three offensive rebounds but did not find the hoop as the fourth attempt was nullified due to a foul. My'a Green got the scoring started as she made one of two at the charity stripe to get the Eagles ahead early. Mary Schleusner cleaned up a miss on the offensive side for WLU and put it back to give the Generals the lead. Kayla Ford made one of two from the line as well to tie the game before an Elka Prechel three pointer broke the short-lived tie. BC responded as Jaden Alsberry went to work in the post, but a Schleusner score on the next trip for the Generals put the, back in front. Green responded with a layup for Bridgewater, but another General's three pointer pushed the lead to 10-6. The two sides traded makes until a Jay Garcia jumper made it 17-14 at the end of the opening frame.
  • A General's three-point bucket pushed the lead out to six but consecutive makes from Abby Freeman, Alsberry and Riley Corcoran knotted the game at 20-20. Schleusner responded for WLU but instantly Freeman tied the game on the other end for the Eagles. After another trade of two points a steal by the Generals pushed the edge out to four before a Green layup sliced the lead in half. A free throw each from Freeman and Green knotted the game at 28-28, but another WLU long ball put the home side in front. Another make from Freeman and a jumper from India Dailey put Bridgewater back in front with two minutes to go in the opening half. After a Schleusner make the stripe Garcia made a jumper to give the Eagles a 34-32 advantage before a quick 3-0 run gave the No. 21 team in the land a 35-34 lead at the break.
  • On cue the two sides each made a jumper to open the third quarter, but then the Generals defense went to work. WLU went on a 16-0 run led by eight from Hanna Malik to take a 53-36 lead with less than two minutes to go in the third quarter. Alexis Edmonds was able to break the scoring drought for the Eagles in the final minute if the frame as the Generals took a 53-38 advantage to the final 10 minutes.
  • Bridgewater opened the fourth quarter with resiliency, forcing a stop on one end and Freeman got the scoring going on the other. Rosemary Pierson followed suit as Edmonds found her on the wing foe a three pointer to get the Eagles back to within 10. WLU responded with an old-school three-point play, but Pierson did the same going the other way. The Generals edged back out in front by 11 with 6:22 to go before Pierson found Corcoran in the lane to cut the lead to single digits. WLU pushed the edge back to 11 before an Edmonds three-point basket sparked the BC offense. After an offensive foul by Schleusner, Edmonds found Dailey on the other end to cut the lead to six with just over three minutes to go. Dailey struck again to make it a four-point game with 2:20 to go forcing a Washington and Lee time out. After a WLU make Edmonds drilled a three pointer to make it 63-60 with 57 seconds to go. After a stop Corcoran found Alsberry in the paint to make it a one-point game with 10 seconds left. BC was forced to foul. Malik made two free throws to make a three-point WLU lead with seven seconds to go. Corcoran drove up the floor as BC had their best shooters on the floor but were unable to get a shot off.
