Women's Basketball Rolls Past Ferrum

BRIDGEWATER, Va. - The Bridgewater College women's basketball team got back in the win column in a big way behind a 62-35 victory over Ferrum on Saturday.

The Basics

Final Score: Bridgewater 62; Ferrum 35
Records: Bridgewater 5-3 (1-1 ODAC); Ferrum 5-2 (3-1 ODAC)

How it Happened
  • The Panthers struck first after a BC turnover, but Jaden Alsberry found India Dailey on the low block on a second chance effort to tie it up. Dailey's bucket sparked an 11-0 BC run where Bridgewater held Ferrum without a make for over four minutes. Dailey led the scoring spree with four points as five different Eagles got in the score book before a Ferrum response. After a layup from Kayla Cabiness, Abby Freeman drilled a three pointer. Ferrum was able to get a free throw, but that was all down the stretch as a 7-1 Eagles' run made it 18-5 after one.
  • Ferrum struck first again in the second quarter, but it was Jaiden Polston on the other end getting things started for BC. Reagan Maynard followed suit as Aylin Humpherys found her on the wing to fuel a quick 7-0 run from just Maynard and Polston while the BC defense forced three straight turnovers. The two teams traded scores before a Riley Corcoran jumper added some separation. After the score by the sophomore from Chapel Hill, Jay Garcia drained two at the charity stripe and Rosemary Pierson knocked down a three-point basket to make it 36-14 for the home side at the break.
  • Kayla Ford found Corcoran in transition to open the third quarter. Corcoran knocked down a pair of free throws on the next trip down the hardwood and Alsberry followed suit with a layup before Cabiness knocked down a three pointer to get the Ferrum offense going in the second half. The long ball sparked an 8-0 Panthers' run before Ford dished to Maynard from beyond the arc to silence the visiting side. Ferrum added a pair of free throws with a pair of makes from Maynard at the stripe sandwiched in between before a Garcia free throw pushed it to 48-24 heading to the final 10 minutes.
  • Ferrum opened the fourth quarter with a make from long range, but a response from My'la Green got Bridgewater going. The layup ignited a quick 8-1 scoring burst where the Panthers were held without a field goal for nearly three minutes. Each side made just one field goal each over the final five minutes of the half as a Jay Garcia free throw made it 62-35 to wrap it up.
Match Notes
  • Alsberry and Cabiness led the way for each of their teams with 12 points each.
  • Garcia led the battle on the glass with nine rebounds for BC while Alsberry totaled six.
  • Neither side shot north of 30% from long range as each knocked down a trio of three pointers with Cabiness being the only player with multiple. She also tallied nine of Ferrum's 12 attempts from three-point land.
  • BC went to work inside with 30 points coming in the paint. The Eagles also tallied 25 points off of their 28 forced turnovers including a trio of shot clock violations.
