Box Score BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Bridgewater women's soccer team shutout Salisbury with a score of 2-0 on Saturday afternoon.
The Eagles scored just under five minutes into the game when Ashley Sabatino collected a pass from Skyler Daum and scored her third goal of the year. The first half moved quickly after that, with a lot of neutral zone action.
Bridgewater took that 1-0 lead into halftime, being outshot 8-2 and holding an advantage in corner kicks, 2-1.
The second half Bridgewater began to create more chances and control the game. The Eagles midfielders were controlling possession and giving forwards opportunities to put shots on the goal. In the 79th minute, Angel Finch picked off a pass in the midfield. She dribbled down the left side and centered a pass to Madison Crooks. Crooks one touch passed to wide open Lauren Pion who deposited the ball in the top left corner of the net.
The game ended 2-0, and goalkeeper Sydney Davis earned her 19th career shutout. She is one shutout away from tying Bridgewater's record for shutouts. She had 10 saves.
Destiny Zapata lead the Eagles with two shots on goal, while Sabatino and Pion each had one.
BC held an overall advantage in corners, 2-1, and the Sea Gulls held the shot advantage 13-10.
The Eagles have won three straight and are 5-1 on the year. They'll return to action on Wednesday Sept. 22 when they travel to local Eastern Mennonite for a game beginning at 7:00 p.m.
