Three First Half Goals Guides Eagles to Victory

Box Score

BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Bridgewater women's soccer team took down Greensboro, 5-1, in non-conference action Wednesday afternoon.

The Eagles started hot out of the gate, making crisp passes and creating opportunities to score. They earned two corner kicks in the first five minutes of the game. The chances kept coming, and at the 7:23 mark, Ashley Sabatino scored on a shot from the top of the box, beating the goalie to the far-left side. Alicia Keo picked up her third assist of the year on the goal.

Bridgewater would keep the pressure going, and score two more times in the next four minutes. Hanna Randolph was able to net a rebound goal off the try by Lexi Winkler, making it 2-0.  Just two minutes later, the Eagles earned a corner. The ball was sent into the box and bounced off a couple different Eagles attackers until it found Skyler Daum's right foot and into the net to extend their lead.

BC totaled 17 shots to the Pride's one in the first half, and took that 3-0 into the break. Corners were 8-0 Bridgewater.

In the 62nd minute, Keo created a turnover and dribbled the ball down the right-wing side, she centered a pass to the box meant for Sabatino. The ball missed Sabatino but Daum was again in the right place at the right time, as she struck the loose ball and sniped the top left corner of the net, 4-0 game.

Greensboro would eventually get on the board in the 70th minute, as Taylor Harrison beat goalkeeper Megan Byle with a shot.

At the 80:27 mark the Eagles would finish off the Pride when Angel Finch netted her second goal of the year on a crosser from Destiny Zapata in the front of the box.

Bridgewater totaled 33 shots, a season-high, in its 2021 home debut, and held a 10-1 advantage in corner kicks.

The Eagles will be back in action Saturday Sept. 18 when they take on the Sea Gulls of Salisbury at home. Action is set to begin at 1:00 p.m.
