Box Score MARYVILLE, TN. – The Bridgewater College women's soccer team got back into the win column by defeating Maryville, 3-0, on the second day of the Maryville Invitational.
The first half consisted of an even affair with both sides having chances. The first goal didn't come until the 33rd minute when the Eagles got onto the board. Skyler Daum intercepted a pass at the top of the box and deposited the ball into the lower right side of the net. The goalkeeper was able to get a hand on the shot but was unable to stop its path into the net.
The first half ended with the score 1-0, with shots favoring Maryville 6-4, and corners favoring Bridgewater, 4-2.
The Eagles took that 1-0 lead up until the 78th minute. Lauren Pion delivered a crossing pass right on the money to Angel Finch from the right-wing side into the left side in the box. Finch put the ball into the lower right corner of the net, beating the goalie and giving BC a 2-0 lead.
Bridgewater wasn't finished, and in the final two minutes of the game at the 88:39 mark, they made it 3-0. Sydney Davis delivered a pass from her goalie box all the way down the field to Daum, who made a one touch pass to Ashley Sabatino. The net was wide-open as the goalie attacked Daum and Sabatino scored easily, finishing off the day with a late goal to go up by three.
Bridgewater outshot Maryville 11-10, and held a 7-4 advantage in corners. Davis made seven saves in net.
BC will play its next three out of four games at home, and will have its home opener on Wednesday, Sept. 15 when the Eagles take on Greensboro.
