Box Score BRIDGEWATER, Va. - The Guilford Quakers tallied twice in the second half Monday afternoon to defeat Bridgewater College 2-1 in ODAC men's soccer action.
Bridgewater wasted little time in taking the lead as the Eagles jumped on top in the second minute of play. Sam Franklin beat his defender down the right side and sent a cross into the middle of the box. Alex Martinez took the pass and connected on an open shot from 10 yards out to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead.
In the second half it was Guilford that struck quickly. Kennedy Nzekwe's header from in close was blocked by James Yeboah but Nzekwe cleaned up the rebound to tie the score less than two minutes into the second half.
Guilford scored the go-ahead goal with 32:00 minutes remaining int the second half. Sebastian Salas sent a cross into the box and Nzekwe found the back of the net for his second goal, giving the Quakers a 2-1 lead.
Total shots were even at nine apiece and Guilford held an 8-2 edge in corner kick opportunities.
The Eagles, now 1-5-2 overall, are back in action when they travel to Buena Vista, Va., to play Southern Virginia in a non-conferenec contest.
