SALEM, Va. - The Bridgewater College women's soccer team ran its winning streak to six in a row with a 2-1 victory Sunday afternoon at Roanoke College.
After a scoreless first half, Bridgewater's Destiny Zapata gave the Eagles the lead with an unassisted goal in the 66th minute. Zapata scored again in the 85th minute off an assist from Cyan Coates to make the score 2-0. Zapata leads the Eagles in goals scored this season with four.
Roanoke stayed alive with a goal by Eliza Ryan with 3:09 left in the game. The Eagles defense held the Maroons to no shots the rest of the way to close out the 2-1 victory.
Roanoke held a 14-11 edge in total shots, but the Eagles put nine of their 11 shots on frame.
Bridgewater goalkeeper Sydney Davis finished the contest with four saves.
Bridgewater (6-0, 5-0 in the ODAC) is back in action Wednesday when the Eagles travel to Ferrum for a non-conference contest. The Eagles return home next Sunday to host Guilford College.
