Second-Half Goals Lift Macon Past Eagles

Box Score

BRIDGEWATER, Va. - After 60 minutes of scoreless action Sunday afternoon, Randolph-Macon scored two goals in less than three minutes to defeat Bridgewater 2-0 in ODAC men's soccer action.

The first half was a defensive struggle with play contained in the midfield. Early in the contest, the Eagles had the best opportunity to score when Matthew Shelor had an open shot from the rigth side, but his attempt to the far post was just wide.

The Yellow Jackets broke through in the second half when Chass Jones slipped a shot inside the near post in the 61st minute. Less than three minutes later, Bogue Cummings scored on a free kick from straightaway, just outside the box, to put the visitors up 2-0.

Total shots were even at nine apiece while Macon held a 4-2 edge in shots on goal.

Bridgewater, now 0-1-1 on the season, is back in action Thursday when the Eagles travel to Virginia Wesleyan.
