VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Bridgewater College kicked off its women's soccer season Sunday with an impressive 1-0 ODAC victory over rival Virginia Wesleyan.
After a scoreless first half, Bridgewater scored the game's lone goal in the 68th minute when midfielder Hanna Randolph sipped a shot past the Marlins' keeper to the right corner of the goal.
The Marlins held a 16-6 edge in total shots and an 8-2 advantage in shots on goal. After being outshot by a 10-2 margin in the first half, the Eagles closed the gap in the second half with four shots compared to six by the Marlins.
Sydney Davis led a strong defensive effort for the Eagles with eight saves to record the shutout in goal.
Bridgewater is back in action Thursday when the Eagles host Southern Virginia in a non-conference contest.
