BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Bridgewater College men's soccer team earned its first conference win of the season on Wednesday afternoon, blanking Eastern Mennonite, 2-0.

The game began with some back-and-forth play, with several chances for both sides. As BC began to settle in, its offense began to look sharp.

At the 31:06 mark, Parker Richard got the Eagles on the board. His goal came off a corner taken by Simon Brun. The initial corner was dumped into the box and found the head of Josh Gilliam as the shot hit the post. The ball then ricocheted right to the left foot of Richard who buried it.

BC took that 1-0 lead into the half, outshooting EMU 11-3 while holding a 4-1 corner advantage.

The Eagles would continue to unload shots on the Royals, posting another 12 shots in the second half. They broke through to seal the game when Matthew Shelor scored on a pass assisted by Trevon Phillips from the right side of the field into the box. Shelor made a slick redirection to bury it into the right lower corner.

The Royals didn't end up finding any offense, as the game ended 2-0. Bridgewater's backline shutdown nearly all of EMU's chances, as Charles Schweinefuss had to make only one save.

BC held a 23-6 shot advantage, and an 8-2 corner advantage. David Franco and Shelor lead the Eagles with five shots.
