Women's Soccer Takes Down Sweet Briar

SWEET BRIAR, Va. – The Bridgewater College women's soccer team traveled to Sweet Briar and secured its first conference win of the season, winning 4-1.

Sweet Briar got on the board early, and in the second minute scored on their first shot to go up 1-0. Bridgewater controlled the rest of the first half, but still went into the break down on the scoresheet. They outshot Sweet Briar 13-3 and held a 3-1 corner advantage.

In the second half the Eagles got going, and in the 53th minute Ashley Sabatino scored her fifth goal of the year beating the goalkeeper high to tie the game at one all.

It was all Bridgewater from here on out, as they ended up getting 46 shots off. Hanna Randolph scored her fourth goal of the season in the 75th minute to take the lead. Just two minutes later, Lauren Pion scored for the Eagles to go up 3-1.

Sabatino would get her second of the day and sixth of the year in the 86th minute, assisted by Hanna Randolph. The Vixens never recovered.

The Eagles get back in the win column after tying Shenandoah in their conference opener on Wednesday, and will next look ahead to an ODAC finals rematch with Washington and Lee. The game is on Saturday Oct. 9 at home, starting at 2 p.m.
