HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. - The Bridgewater College men's tennis team capped off its Spring Break trip with a 6-3 victory Friday over Albion.
The Eagles won two of the three doubles points to take the early lead.
Bridgewater's Canon Secord and Matthew Gordon coasted to an 8-1 victory at No. 1 doubles.
The other two matches went to a tiebreaker.
At No. 2 doubles, Bridgewater's Sonet Gandhi and Nick Kiser edged Matthew Czarnecki and Sagar Kamaraju 8-7, winning the tiebreaker 7-2. Albion's Patrick Smoker and Stepehn Smoker slipped by Robert Williard and Leyton Pullin by the same score at No. 3 doubles.
The Eagles won four singles matches to clinch the win.
Secord was first off the court, rolling to a 6-0, 6-1 win over Brett Gurzell at the No. 1 slot. Gordon gave the Eagles a 4-2 lead with a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 2 over Toma Shngoo.
Albion stayed in the hunt when Sagar Kamaraju downed Williard 6-2, 6-0 to win the point at No. 5.
Gandhi clinched the match for the Eagles with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Patrick Smoker at No. 3 singles.
The remaining two singles matches went to a deciding tiebreaker after the players split the first two sets.
At No. 6 singles, Bridgewater's Pullin held off Tselmeg Mendsaikhan 2-6, 6-1, 1-0 (10-3). At the No. 4 slot, Albion's Matthew Czarnecki edged Kiser 6-3, 4-6, 1-0 (10-6).
