Eagles Blank Averett In Non-Conference Play

Box Score

BRIDGEWATER, Va. – Bridgewater College scored early and often Wednesday afternoon in an 11-0 non-conference win over Averett University.

Janidy Madera's hat trick led the Eagles' scoring efforts. Catherine Haufe, Hunter Collier and Angel Finch each added a pair of goals.

Junior midfielder Haufe put the Eagles on the board early when her shot from outside the box skimmed just under the crossbar for a 1-0 Bridgewater lead just 4:10 into the first half. Ten minutes later, Haufe struck again as she took a through ball from Sydney Ryan and her shot from straight on beat the keeper for a 2-0 Eagles lead.

The Eagles reserves joined the fray in the 26th minute when Madera scored off a pass from first-year forward Emily York, pushing the margin to 3-0. Bridgewater scored again in the 32nd minute when Cyan Coates sent a cross into the box and Collier scored to make the score 4-0.

Madera scored her second goal as she touched the ball past the keeper and the shot trickled across the line just before the halftime buzzer, giving the Eagles a 5-0 lead at the break.

Finch, a first-year forward, tallied her first collegiate goal early in the second half and Collier followed with her second goal of the day, making the score 7-0. York scored her first goal as an Eagle and Hanna Randolph tallied with a left-footed strike from 30 yards out to push the margin to 9-0.

Finch found the net again to make it 10-0 and Madera completed her hat trick off a cross from Finch in the 73rd minute to complete the scoring.

The Eagles finished with a 28-5 edge in total shots and a 5-0 advantage in corner kicks.

All three Bridgewater keepers – Sydney Davis, Jessica Touve and Alyssa Pearson – played and combined for the shutout. Averett put three shots on goal, all in the second half. Touve recorded two saves and Pearson finished with one.

Bridgewater returns to action this weekend with two games at the W&L Classic. The Eagles face Salisbury in Saturday action and Franklin & Marshall in the Sunday contest.
