Eagles Win Third Straight With 2-0 Victory At Averett

Box Score

DANVILLE, Va. - A long evening in Danville was worth the wait Tuesday for the Bridgewater College men's soccer team as the Eagles defeated Averett 2-0 to improve to 3-0 on the season. The 3-0 start equals the best record to begin a season since the 1998 team opened with three straight wins.

After a scoreless first half, the Eagles took the lead in the opening 30 seconds of the second half. Jacob Heiston played a through ball to Thomas White who dribbled to his left and then struck a shot to the far post for his third goal of the season and 1-0 Eagles lead.

After White's goal, the teams left the field for more than an hour due to lightning in the area. When play resumed, the Eagles tallied again in the 56th minute. White sent a cross into the box and the keeper was unable to field the ball cleanly. Luke Stubbs cleaned up the rebound to put the Eagles ahead 2-0.

Bridgewater held a 14-10 edge in total shots while the Cougars had the edge in corner kicks, 7-3.

Eagles' goalkeeper Quentin Boric recorded three saves to post his first shutout of the 2018 season.

Bridgewater returns to action this weekend when the Eagles travel to St. Mary's College in Maryland for the Seahawks Classic. The Eagles meet Salisbury on Saturday and then play the host St. Mary's team on Sunday afternoon.
