Second-Half Surge Leads Eagles To 3-0 Victory Over EMU

Box Score

- The Bridgewater offense came to life with two goals early in the second half and the Eagles went on to defeat Eastern Mennonite 3-0 Wednesday afternoon.

Bridgewater held an 8-1 lead in shots in the first half, but the Eagles were able to put just one shot on frame as the EMU defense kept the Eagles on the perimeter of the box for most of the half.

Bridgewater's best chance in the opening half came on a free kick by Sarah Brennan from 25 yards out. Brennan put her shot past the wall, but the ball hit the post and caromed away.

The Eagles put plenty of pressure on the Royals to start the second half and the result was two goals in the opening 10 minutes.

Bridgewater got on the board in the 53rd minute. Anna Sobus beat her defender on the right flank and dribbled into the box. Sobus slotted a pass across the box to Keri Rager and Rager put her shot into the open goal for a 1-0 Eagles lead. The goal was Rager's fourth of the season.

Less than three minutes the later the Eagles struck again. Following a corner kick, the Eagles kept the ball in the offensive end and continued to apply pressure to the EMU defense. Maddie Grim possessed the ball out front on the right side and crossed the ball into the box to Rager. Rager dropped a pass off the Bailey Kratz and Kratz powered the shot in from straight away, making the score 2-0. The goal was the first of the season for Kratz.

Bridgewater scored its final goal in 82nd minute when Kratz beat her defender down the right side and dribbled into the box. Kratz passed the ball across the box to Sobus for a wide-open shot and Sobus punched the ball into the net for her team-leading sixth goal of the season.

The Eagles finished the contest with a 19-7 edge in shots and a 6-4 advantage in corner kicks.

Bridgewater goalkeeper Hayley Talbott recorded four saves in the game to post her third shutout of the season. The shutout was the team's fourth of the season.

The victory was the sixth straight for the Eagles, now 6-1-1 on the season. EMU drops to 2-3-2. Due to the unbalanced conference schedule played by the women's soccer teams, Wednesday's contest does not count in the ODAC standings.

Bridgewater is back in action on the weekend for a pair of games. The Eagles open conference play Saturday when they travel to Hollins. Bridgewater returns home on Sunday for a non-conference contest with Salisbury.
