BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Bridgewater College women's lacrosse team recorded its first shutout since April 11, 2015, defeating Hood College 17-0 at Jopson Field.
Senior Annie Sullivan recorded three points in a span of under two minutes to help the Eagles go ahead 7-0 less than 15 minutes into the contest.
Anna O'Hara caused a turnover and started a fast break to Sullivan, who fed Dwyer Neal for the goal. Just 24 seconds later, the senior finished off a pass from Shannon Rogers. She then added another off classmate Claire Palermo-Re's assist.
Sullivan finished with three goals and three assists to lead the Eagles attack. Neal and O'Hara also had hat tricks, while Kristen Stark and Sarah Yashinskie scored twice each.
The Eagles took a 12-0 halftime lead with a 26-2 shot advantage, putting 23 of those shots on target. O'Hara opened the scoring and Neal made it 2-0 on the counter following a Hood turnover.
Gruber caught a free position chance on Hood's only shot attempt of the opening 14 minutes, and at the other end Yashinski scored from a tight angle on the right to make it 3-0.
Hood goalie Rylie Benoit-Nobis (11 first half saves, 14 overall) stopped consecutive point-blank chances by Neal and Stark, but a Stark free position goal soon after pushed BC's lead to 4-0.
The Eagles made it double digits in the 23rd minute of play as O'Hara won the draw and raced right down to score. Neal completed a first half hat trick for an 11-0 BC lead.
Freshman Jacqueline DiFulvio scored her first collegiate goal to make it 15-0 as the Eagles kept the pressure up early in the second half.
O'Hara and Brittney Brown led the defense with two caused turnovers each. Yashinskie had a game-high five draw controls.
Bridgewater improves to 2-0 and will be home again on Saturday at 1 p.m. vs. Frostburg State.
