BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Bridgewater College women's lacrosse team fell to McDaniel 9-8 Saturday afternoon.

How it Happened

McDaniel added one more goal at the beginning of the second period, putting the Eagles down 3-0. Taylor Price connected with Paige Mayers with 8:18 remaining in the half to put the Eagles on the board. McDaniel added two more goals before halftime to enter the break with a 5-1 lead. Both goals came from extra woman opportunities.

Bridgewater's offense was brought to life at the beginning of the second half, opening the third period with two goals. Andrea Lorca scored on a free position play 2:13 into the third quarter. The following play, Lauren Garrett found the back of the net from a Paige Overeem assist. McDaniel responded with a goal with 9:57 remaining in the period to make it a 6-3 game. With 5:41 remaining in the quarter, Ella Price scored a goal to cut the McDaniel lead to two. McDaniel scored once more before the end of the quarter to enter the final period of regulation with a 7-4 advantage.

Being up two women at the beginning of the fourth, Bridgewater took advantage and cut into the McDaniel lead with a Carly Gardill goal six seconds into the quarter. After nearly nine minutes without a score from both sides, Ella Price found Mayers for a goal. McDaniel found the back of the net with 5:28 remaining in regulation. With 3:52 remaining, Overeem scored unassisted to make it an 8-7 lacrosse game. With 58 seconds remaining, Overeem was fouled, gifting her a free position shot. Overeem capitalized and scored the goal to send the Eagles to an extra period.

In overtime, Bridgewater lost the opening draw control, but immediately forced a turnover. After a foul with 3:13 remaining in the period, McDaniel was gifted a free position shot. Maisen Jenkins made a clutch save to keep the Eagles alive. BC ran out of time on the shot clock with 32 seconds remaining, leading to a McDaniel score with 5 seconds remaining in the overtime period.
